Father
By Mary Jane Davis
You're head of our whole family. You see to all our needs.
Things dad does as the head of the family:
help, support, encourage, and love his wife
works to provide the money and support needed for our living
counsels and checks up on us
makes sure we are working to strengthen our testimonies
encourage us to pursue goals (including education)
You listen and you hear with love. You smile and praise good deeds.
Things that make dad smile:
when mom is smiling ;P
a vacation from work
watching his children interact with each other
singing/dancing/talking story
making others laugh
when things are clean/orderly
You shoulder your own heavy loads, and share our burdens too.
Things dad takes responsibility for:
being a husband/father/son/son-in-law
help with college application/scholarships/job search/taxes/driving
church calling- 1st counselor in the bishopric/ previous bishop
"assistant manager" at work
being a friend
Armed with patriarchal power, God blesses us through you.
Things that I am blessed with because dad has the priesthood:
opportunity to be a part of an eternal family
baptism/confirmation
father's blessings- baby, annual, school, sick, trips, basically anything
father interviews (fast sundays)
gospel teaching in the home
Your strong hands hold our smaller ones, when calming childish fears,
Or touch to gently reassure, and wipe away our tears.
Things that dad does/says to comfort:
hugs and kisses
listens
"did you...fast, pray, read your scriptures, etc?"
sends random texts on his way to work just to see how we're doing
wait outside of my first classes of college to make sure i'm ok =)
As you walk forth in righteousness, we want to follow you.
And on our knees we humbly pray, to God, just as you do.
Things that i learned from dad (church and non-church):
be orderly and organized in storing stuff
willingly serve without a word
do your best, and the lord will get the rest
there is room for repentance
it is better to avoid than resist
go for it! (apply! the worst they can say is no)
We're walking in your footsteps, secure in loving care.
Things that remind me of dad:
pulling out the church handbook when we ask a question
telling mom what we were thinking (in front of us)
"guilty face" =P
burps after eating a good home-cooked meal
long black socks
excel spread sheets
byu fight song (anything byu)
God bless you fathers, everyone, is our most humble prayer.
Happy Father's Day Daddy!
Thank you so much for all you do!
I Love You! =)

M.O.T.H.E.R.
"The sweetest sounds to mortals given are heard in MOTHER, home and heaven."
-William Goldsmith Brown
M is for the million things she gave me
things i learned from mom:
leave everything cleaner than you got it
it's ok to have a "lived in" house
but appreciate the clean
how to clean:
washing dishes (putting forks down in dish rack, wiping counter after)
hanging clothes (big to small, underwear on the inside)
scrubbing the floor (hands and knees and all)
bathroom (wipe once and fold, open the curtains after you pau bocha)
*HARD* yard work (pulling weeds, raking leaves, mowing, watering, etc.)
sweep before mopping
O is only that she's getting old
things that keep mom "young":
she laughs... a lot
she knows/talks with her children and their friends
she's in the primary
she exercises
EVAN =P
T is for the tears she shed to save me
things mom gave me:
my cheeks
my skin
my feet
my nose
my thick, "fine" hair
my tendency to think with my emotions
my quick "reactions"
H is for her heart as pure as gold
things that show mom has a big heart:
how she takes care of gramma
the sacrifices she makes for her children
the money she spends on food
the way she cries when her children leave for college
that she makes dad and everyone else's food before she sits
how she goes above and beyond in her callings
E is for her eyes with love's light shining
things that make mom's eyes light up:
her children being together
hearing church hymns
watching a movie with a good ending
dancing with dad
surprises
when she finally figures out TECHNOLOGY =P
R is right and "wright" she'll always be
things that remind me of mom:
"oh croak"=P
the ukulele
"BIG TIME"
the shower curtain being scrunched
"i'm not no tom, dick, or harry"
carnation leis
"i'm not joe blow down the street"
"oh no, oh no, OH NO!" =P
Put them all together they spell MOTHER, a word that means the world to me!
there is soooo much more that i can't and don't have time to type. but thank you so much for all of it.
Happy Mother's Day Mom!
I love you! =)

happy valentines... and happy new year!
my bom professor told us on wednesday not to let this weekend be a depressing "singles awareness" weekend, but to make it a reason to have even more fun! so i decided i would. on thursday night, i watched never been kissed with margo. it was so cute... we planned it before hand, but she was so excited. i think she had as much fun as i did.
on friday, we had an assignment to research alta apartments, so we walked there together, and then we went to eat. while eating we decided that we didn't wanna be sitting in the dorm all night so we reserved racquetball courts and we played (it's even harder with 3 people... just saying). afterward, we watched a little bit of the olympics, and then it was time to sleep.
on saturday all of my practices were going on but then i learned how to play a video game and i played with mauri. we treated ourselves to l&l to celebrate valentines day, and then we were gonna go swimming with margo, but the pool was closed, so we just watched some olympics before going to bed.
this morning, i woke up to blueberry muffins that margo made for us (isn't she just so cute!! =D). i got ready for church and then i picked up the car from cam because mauri and i went to a deaf ward (actually, my asl teacher's ward). it was really cool! even more cool was that i understood a lot of it! ;) anyway, after we ate lunch at the cannon, we went to mauri's brother's house to spend time/eat with them. nell needed the car, so we went to her house to drop it off where she gave us valentine treats (thanks nell). we went back to ariel's house where we spent some time before it was time to leave. basically, it was a great weekend. but since it IS valentines day, and since everyone has been doing valentines things before it was even valentines, i thought i'd share some of the love i received.

i made some valentine goodies for my kids in the provo youth mentoring. the guys in my ward on the 2100 floor left this valentine for me. every girl in our ward has a valentine from a famous guy... that was mine. we had this thing where cupid stopped at someone's dorm room and it came to ours with goodies and ingredients to make cookies! =)
on valentines day i got these... margo brought a fortune cookie from relief society (since i went to the deaf ward), and left me a valentine. my relief society presidency left these goodie bags next to every girl's door, and mauri drew me a picture and gave me some goodies. =) oh! and the happy new year thing... i forgot about it until brother texted me. so... happy new year! =)
