day of FIRSTS

today was a very busy and exciting day! i woke up early to go to luau practices and it was my first time being able to "semi" do poi balls. then, mauri and i went to our first colombia practice for fiesta, it was exciting, but we didn't do anything. then mauri went to eat (for my first time) with our friend sharyn wada. she's super cool. then came the cool part.
first i put on a bunch of layers and funky looking stuff to get ready to go out and play in the snow. in this picture i'm using three layers of pants, 3 layers of shirts, 3 layers of socks (one of those layers being one of mauri's long socks), 2 layers of gloves, a beanie, my 2 hoods, and mauri's old shoes (that wouldn't make my feet wet).

then mauri and i walked to the field next to the bean museum and i made my first snow angel. it was kinda hard because i first had to lie down so that it didn't look too mutu. (mauri needed to help me there). but here's what it looked like.
finally i got to make my first snowman. and here he is... (notice his hair... isn't that just the funniest thing?? it was my idea, thank you. =P mauri was joking around and saying how that's how his hair is gonna look when he comes back from his mission-- with the whole part and all) i think it looks very nice for it being my first snowman.

we walked to the bean, but we were too tired to look around, so we just went home, bocha-ed, and then we went to eat at l&l (we were dying for some chicken katsu). then we went for my first time to the progressive power tumbling, but then we weren't wearing the appropriate clothes so we had to go someplace else. instead we went to his brother's friends house and we played with his brother and friend (for my first time), rockband. it was fun! afterward we went into their RV and watched, for the first time, imagine that. (it's a cute movie, by the way, nell and meags)

i came home and went to sleep. but it really was... a WONDERFUL day... of firsts! =)

i love smiling people

today i tried to have another productive day, and i think it was fulfilling. i was allowed to wake up a little later than usual because one of my professors is on a cruise so he isn't in all week. therefore, i didn't have to wake up at 8, so i woke up at 10. i got ready, made my bed, and was off to ahtg. it was a good class, but bom was even better. we talked about how we can be more righteous and better people, and it was one of those spirit boosters. i really love that class. it has been AMAZING, and dr. marsh always seems to put such a positive outlook on life. anyway, mauri and i went to the terrace to eat, and that's where i met and talked to harvey unga. it was kinda funny... i didn't know it was him, but he was really nice. i went to asl where we learned even more about places and where we're from. that's always a good class. mauri and i went to the library to borrow a book (BUBS, have you read the spiderwick chronicles? it's easy reading, but i think you'd enjoy it). at 5pm we had to watch "mr. smith goes to washington" (a black and white film about politics... for ahtg), so we read until then. cam and josue wanted to eat at the cannon and so that's where the REAL reason for this blog starts. =P

cam, josue, mauri, and i were eating when i saw an old man all by himself. i've seen him many times before, and i've always wanted to sit and talk to him, but i never did. this time, i told cam, and she said "invite him over!" so i did. i went over and asked him if he'd like to join me and my friends, but he said no. he said thanks, but he's got to get home and he's in a hurry. i was kinda bummed, i'll admit, but i was... comforted (?) by the fact that i tried. after a little while, the man came and sat by us anyway, and he said he'd changed his mind. it was great. we talked and talked to him. he's a nice man, but lonely. his name is dr. roth, and he's a math professor at uvu. he told us about his family, about his job, about things he likes, about our cultures, and about the places he's been. i think mauri especially enjoyed this because dr. roth actually knew where panaca was, saying he went there before. it was a good time. we got there around 730pm but because we were talking to dr. roth, we didn't leave until 9pm.

can i just say that i left with such a good feeling? he usually looked lonely, but when we left, he was smiling. i think that really made my day. although i only talked with the guy, and it really wasn't that big of a deal, i realized how much i love happy people. i'm glad i met dr. roth. *sigh* it's been a good day! =)

productivity = awesomeness

i love being productive. today was one of those days. i made a list of the things i wanted to accomplish and i did. i woke up early and prayed that heavenly father would help me to have a productive day. then i went to school to print out my lab BEFORE class, and i found out that i didn't have lab. so instead of futting around, i did my homework for my science class, and took the quiz. by that time, it was devotional time, so i walked to the marriott and i watched devotional. (it was a good one, by the way. the speaker talked about how couples should be more repentant and more forvgiving and then their relationships will continue to be blissful) i went to the cannon to eat with mauri and then i knocked out my interview for my ecclesiastical endorsement for next year. i worked on my byu scholarship while waiting for class, and then i went to my science class and asl. mauri had an art class from 4pm to 8pm, so i decided to go home and help margo clean her room for the cleaning check (i got a free cleaning check because i did the activity for the academic week, but i decided i could help her. and plus, it never hurts to have a clean room). i finished my cleaning and then i called cam and josue and they took me to the temple. it was my first time going by myself, but i was there for about an hour. when cam, josue, and meags picked me up from the temple, i had just enough time to go eat and then just hang out with mauri until it was time to go sleep. my prayers were answered. =)

facebook... good times, good times!

i went on facebook today to email a friend more information about luau so that she could join too, when i saw this quote posted on another of my friends wall. i found it amusing...

"Today, I went through a drive through, and saw that there was Braile writing on the menu sign. Good to know that blind people drive now days."

thanks alex! =P

full weekend

this weekend has been busy. although last week we were playing sports like crazy, this weekend me and mauri were dancing like crazy! ;) it was fun. this past week (for helaman halls) was academic week, where they were trying to get the students to be aware of all of the facilities and programs on campus that would be helpful with our academics. these were things like the academic advisement center, y-serve, counseling/biofeedback lab, lrc, and stuff like that. so friday night was the "nerd" dance as a kind of end of academic week celebration. so me and mauri went to that. then saturday night we went to living legends. it was exciting. i knew a few of the dancers, and i think that they did really well. here are a few pictures with some of them.
kawehi (hawaii section leader), eva, and justin (soar friend)
after living legends, mauri and i went to the "tri-area" dance at the wilk. it was a combined helaman, heritage, and wyview dance. we met up with friends and danced until it was over. he walked me home and i slept with enough time to wake up for church this morning.
on another note... i'm SOOOOOO sore today. it hurts to walk downhill. i blame the duck walks from hawaii practice yesterday morning. hopefully it'll be better tomorrow. =P
