i love smiling people

today i tried to have another productive day, and i think it was fulfilling. i was allowed to wake up a little later than usual because one of my professors is on a cruise so he isn't in all week. therefore, i didn't have to wake up at 8, so i woke up at 10. i got ready, made my bed, and was off to ahtg. it was a good class, but bom was even better. we talked about how we can be more righteous and better people, and it was one of those spirit boosters. i really love that class. it has been AMAZING, and dr. marsh always seems to put such a positive outlook on life. anyway, mauri and i went to the terrace to eat, and that's where i met and talked to harvey unga. it was kinda funny... i didn't know it was him, but he was really nice. i went to asl where we learned even more about places and where we're from. that's always a good class. mauri and i went to the library to borrow a book (BUBS, have you read the spiderwick chronicles? it's easy reading, but i think you'd enjoy it). at 5pm we had to watch "mr. smith goes to washington" (a black and white film about politics... for ahtg), so we read until then. cam and josue wanted to eat at the cannon and so that's where the REAL reason for this blog starts. =P

cam, josue, mauri, and i were eating when i saw an old man all by himself. i've seen him many times before, and i've always wanted to sit and talk to him, but i never did. this time, i told cam, and she said "invite him over!" so i did. i went over and asked him if he'd like to join me and my friends, but he said no. he said thanks, but he's got to get home and he's in a hurry. i was kinda bummed, i'll admit, but i was... comforted (?) by the fact that i tried. after a little while, the man came and sat by us anyway, and he said he'd changed his mind. it was great. we talked and talked to him. he's a nice man, but lonely. his name is dr. roth, and he's a math professor at uvu. he told us about his family, about his job, about things he likes, about our cultures, and about the places he's been. i think mauri especially enjoyed this because dr. roth actually knew where panaca was, saying he went there before. it was a good time. we got there around 730pm but because we were talking to dr. roth, we didn't leave until 9pm.

can i just say that i left with such a good feeling? he usually looked lonely, but when we left, he was smiling. i think that really made my day. although i only talked with the guy, and it really wasn't that big of a deal, i realized how much i love happy people. i'm glad i met dr. roth. *sigh* it's been a good day! =)
