children's fair

this morning after our luau practices, i went to work at the children's fair for the byu black history month. it was actually a lot more fun than i thought and it was definitely SOOOO much better than doing 2 papers for my multicultural class. i worked with a guy named brian (that's actually not his given name but people -- including myself-- cannot pronounce his actual first name) who's from zimbabwe. our group topic that we had to teach was south african music and dance. we decided to teach the children how to make one instrument (it's like a maraca) and some dances. it was pretty last minute (if you think of fiesta as far as organization... that's kind of how it was), but i had fun... even after 6 hours of dancing for luau! :) here are some pictures from my shift:

wife lady

i have a hilariously awkward and rather interesting story...

my friend lynn is in a family processing class and as part of one of the activities for that class, she had to do a role play as the wife and how she and her "husband" would solve their problem they were given. you know how you can send mass emails to the whole class through blackboard? well... later she had an email with the subject line: wife lady! here's what it said:

ATTN: Class!
Howdy! This is Cade. I was the father/husband guy in the role play in class today (Feb 16). I am writing because I want to ask my wife lady on a date, but I don't know her name.
So honey, if you're out there somewhere on the other side of this cyber space, and you're not already creeped out that I'm emailing the whole class to find you, then can I take you out later this week?
If you would like to, email me your phone number I'll ask you out like a normal person. If not then I'll look forward to the extremely awkward meeting we will have in class next time : )

love notes

this past week i've been blessed with little reminders of love and happiness. although it has been a rough week, these notes have made my week, and so i wanted to share them with you!

wisdom

in church today, one of the things that stuck out to me was what the council speaker talked about. he said he was thinking about joseph smith and james 1:5 and how it says "if any of you lack WISDOM, let him ask of god..." he talked about the difference between wisdom and knowledge, and how as we seek for wisdom, and not just knowledge, our testimonies will be strengthened. he talked about how "wisdom" means the application of knowledge, the experience and understanding we receive when we DO something, how to solve problems, and not just what we know... but what we DO. he said that as we develop the ability to receive guidance from god, as we change our prayers (from asking to "feel the spirit" to being "instructed," "given wisdom," or "guidance" from the spirit), as we serve others, as we figure decision out on our own and act on them to receive either the blessings or consequences, and as we get to know the holy ghost and build a relationship with him, that we will be able gain stronger testimonies that we can rely on because we have EXPERIENCES of being guided by the spirit and receiving WISDOM every day. through this week, seek for wisdom, and the lord will bless you.
