SUNDAY
i got home at 9:45p and i walk in the door to see four awkward faces staring back at me - two hanging streamers, one frosting a cake, and one looking for a nail/tac. i walked in the door, said "hi guys" and dropped my stuff off into my bedroom. i heard hushed whispers "i dunno...," and "should we tell her?" basically... i knew something was going on. i go back outside into the living room and they tell me that they were decorating as a surprise for me when i got home. i thanked them and we just kinda chilled.
10:15p, robin comes to me and says, "soooo.... we didn't realize you were coming home this early, so we invited some people over at 10:30p to come and have a surprise party for you. uh... surprise!" can i just tell you... AWK-WARD. so i had to go into my room and wait there for more people to show up. *sigh* but so funny. i was in my room when everyone came over, and they had invited people from the ward. apt 44, home teachers, brent, john & io, girls from my fhe, and becky's boyfriend (who was already there helping to set up). haha. the girls were the only ones who didn't show up.
so anyway, i walked out when robin told me to... awkward. i gave hugs and thanks for coming... awkward (some people just don't know how to give good hugs). they showed me the birthday cake, and i blew out the candles... awkward. they gave presents (for those who brought, and i hugged them to thank them)... awkward. becky asked me to dance something... awkward. and then people had to leave... awkward. can you tell that it was awkward? hahahaha! but i appreciated the thought. i do, however, think it might have been better if i did get home a little later. :P
on the outside of my door... i found this. it was from other people on the compassionate service committee for my birthday. i thought it was HILARIOUS. first of all... pick up lines... really? and secondly... i have no idea what that really means, but i think they were trying to say "mele kalikimaka." hahahahaha! so that gave me the idea on how to decorate our apartment, and hopefully i'll get it up soon, and show pictures. :P
THURSDAY
a little after 12am, kaleb pushes my door open and walks in. at first i thought i was dreaming, but then i realize that i'm not so i wake up and sit up. he holds up a bag. :) it was adorable. in that bag, i had THE LION KING, and fools rush in!! both what i had wanted. it was quite exciting. :)
after i had slept a little, cam and josue had made breakfast (french toast-- kneaders, rivas style-- with eggs and juice and cooked apples). cam made it a breakfast so that people would be able to make it to my bday thing and go to other thanksgiving things, and to break up the thanksgiving holiday and birthday celebrations. kauai ohana called over skype to wish me a happy birthday, and i got a few texts from friends to say happy birthday. :)
after breakfast we got to open up presents while we were visiting with each other. john parker got me a funny card and some chapstick, and brother and sarah got me picture frames to put up around the apartment. i'm excited and grateful for the gifts. :)
later that night we had an amazing thanksgiving feast for dinner, prepared by cam, josue, me, sam, and ry. it was sooo ono. sam and ry came to celebrate with us. they also brought me a pair of comfy pajamas and warm fuzzy socks for my birthday! :)
thank you so much to everyone who made my birthday a special one. thanks for coming to the get-togethers, for preparing the food and providing a place for those get-togethers, for the happy wishes, and for being an important part of my life! i'm sure this coming year will be another happy and full one thanks to all of you. xoxo
my favorite part: kaleb's surprise---SOOOOO cccuuuttteee!!! you should tell him to do that for mine too! =D
